MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF COUNCIL HELD

CALL TO ORDER:

Mayor Dennis Korte called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

 

PRESENTATION � SYL BORYSKO:������

Mayor Dennis Korte presented Mr. Syl Borysko, an employee with the Works and Utilities Department, with a gift from the City of Humboldt for his many years of service.

 

Mr. Borysko retired on August 23, 2002.

That the minutes of the Regular Meeting of Council held August 13, 2020be approved as recorded and circulated.

DELEGATIONS � CAREER EXPO:

Mr. Gordon Lees, an executive of the Humboldt & District Chamber Commerce, Ms. April Pauli, manager of the Chamber of Commerce, Sharleen Alcock, of Carlton Trail REDA, and Katie Wingham, representing St. Peter�s College, were in attendance at the meeting to promote the Opportunities Edge Career Expo to be held November 13 and 14, 2002 at St. Peter�s College.

 

Mr. Lees indicated that it was vital for the City of Humboldt to participate in the event by setting up a booth and promoting the City.Mr. Lees also indicated that the Organization would appreciate some financial assistance in order to host this event.

 

Ms. Pauli indicated that there has been very positive feedback and support from the businesses and high schools in the region for this event.

 

Mayor Korte thanked the delegation for attending the meeting.

 

 

ABSTAIN FROM VOTING:

Alderman Darlene Cash indicated that she would abstain from voting in the following matter.

 

SASKPOWER � INVOICE:

That the City authorize payment of $9,501.81 to SaskPower in addition to the $30,000.00 previously paid in full settlement of the Transmission Line Alteration related to the lagoon expansion.

BIG BROTHERS � BIG SISTERS PROCLAMATION:

That the Mayor be authorized to proclaim September 8, 2020 as Big Brothers � Big Sisters Day in the City of Humboldt.

OKTOBERFEST � COMMUNITY EVENTS PERMIT:

That we approve the application from the Humboldt Festivals Committee and the German Heritage Society for a Community Events Permit for the Oktoberfest Celebrations to be held Saturday, October 19, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the Uniplex in Jubilee Hall.

SK HIGHWAYS & TRANSPORTATION � TOURISM SIGNAGE:

Malinoski/Tuchscherer

That the letter from the Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation Department regarding a proposal to cost share with communities to have a consultant assess the current tourism signage at the entrances of Humboldt be accepted for information.

Alderman Leon Doepker declared a pecuniary interest in the following matter and left the Council Chambers at 8:24 p.m.

That cheque number 14121 payable to True Value in the amount of $296.74 be approved for payment.

That the accounts payable for the period ending AUGUST 27, 2020 as represented by general cheque numbers 14047 to 14202, inclusive and as filed in the Accounts Payable Register be approved for payment.

That the City of Humboldt participate in the Opportunities Edge Career Expo 2002 to be held on November 13 and 14, 2002 at St. Peter�s College in Muenster.

 

Further, that the City deny the Chamber of Commerce�s request for financial assistance for this event.
